How many capsules to take per day?
The suggested serving size is between 2-4 capsules per day. The majority of people find 4 capsules to be the most effective daily dose as it provides 2600mg of turmeric. This is in line with the University of Maryland Medical Research Centres recommendation of 1000mg- 3000mg per day.
Start with a low dose:
If you have not supplemented turmeric before we recommend starting on a low dose to allow your body time to get used to turmeric.
Starting with 2 capsules per day for the first 3 - 7 days will allow your body time to get used to turmeric before progressing to the full dose of 4 capsules. This is especially important if you have sensitive digestion.
Although uncommon, taking too much turmeric too soon can result in loose stools. This is easily resolved by stopping or reducing your dose for 1-2 days and then slowly increasing.
How to take your capsules?
The active compounds within turmeric are fat-soluble so it is very important that you take your capsules with food, ideally a full meal.
Most meals contain an adequate amount of fat to assist absorption but if you are eating something with little to no fat e.g. Plain pasta, then we recommend adding a small amount of healthy fat from Virgin Olive or Coconut oil.
When to take your capsules?
The active compounds within turmeric stay in your system for approximately 6-8 hours so its best to split your dose into two servings throughout the day. Breakfast and dinner work great but any meal is fine.
You can take the capsules at the beginning, during or end of a meal.
People with sensitive or slow digestion may find taking capsules at the end of a meal can cause mild reflux symptoms so it is advised to take them at the start of a meal if this occurs.
